Important information if you are coming by car:

  • Toll stickers: You will need to purchase a toll sticker if you plan to drive on autobahns (motorways) and expressways in Austria. You can buy them at gas stations shortly before the border, at many rest areas, and even online at www.asfinag.at. Make sure you affix them to your windshield appropriately.
  • Speed limits: You must obey Austrian speed limits
    (in town: 50 km/h; outside of town: 100 km/h; autobahns: 130 km/h).
  • Winter equipment: During the winter months (ca. November until April), there is a winter equipment requirement (winter tires, and snow chains as weather conditions dictate).
  • Parking: We provide free parking at our accommodations. Parking fees may be demanded at various tourism locales. Pay close attention to short-term parking zones and parking ticket machines.
  • Route planner: Use an up-to-date online route planner (e.g. Google Maps, ÖAMTC route planner, ASFINAG) for detailed directions to your holiday destination. Always be sure to check out the latest weather conditions and forecasts.

When you have your own car, you enjoy maximum flexibility on your drive here as well as after your arrival, allowing you to explore the Schladming-Dachstein region and surrounding areas as you please. Have a great trip, and drive safe!
